This is Everyday Grammar. I'm Lucija.
欢迎收看《每日语法》栏目,我是露西佳。
And I'm Kaveh. The Oxford comma is getting a lot of attention lately,
我是卡维。牛津逗号最近引起了很多注意,
so let's explain a little more about it.
所以我们来解释一下吧。
Also known as the serial comma or the Harvard comma,
牛津逗号又叫连续逗号或哈佛逗号,
The Oxford comma is placed before a conjunction, like And or Or, in a series of three or more items.
它在一连三个或以上的词条中位于连词,比如And或Or之前。
Many people have a difference in opinion in whether to use the Oxford comma or not.
许多人对是否使用牛津逗号有不同的意见。
Some argue against using the Oxford comma, because they think it's old fashioned and not necessary in a simple list.
有些人反对使用牛津逗号,因为他们认为它过时了,在简单的罗列中没必要。

While others argue for the use of the Oxford comma,
然后其他人支持使用牛津逗号,
because they say its use is more standard and it resolves any confusion in meaning.
因为使用它更规范,还能解决意思上的任何困惑。
Let's take a look at this sentence:
我们看看这句话:
I love my parents, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.
I love my parents, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.(我爱我的父母,迈克尔·杰克逊和艾维斯·普雷斯利。)
This sentence without the Oxford comma could be confusing to some.
这个没有牛津逗号的句子可能会让一些人感到困惑。
They might interpret that the speaker's parents are in fact, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.
他们可能会认为说话者的父母实际上是迈克尔·杰克逊和埃尔维斯·普雷斯利。
Not that the speaker loves everyone listed, his parents and Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.
而不是说话者喜欢他罗列的每个人,他的父母、迈克尔·杰克逊和埃尔维斯·普雷斯利。
While using the Oxford Comma, is more of a stylistic choice,
使用牛津逗号更多的是文体选择,
the next time you write, 'I invited my friends, Washington and Lincoln to dinner.'
下次你再写‘I invited my friends, Washington and Lincoln to dinner’时,
Think if you are expressing that your actual friends are Washington and Lincoln,
考虑好你想表达你的真正朋友是华盛顿和林肯,
Or I invited my friends, and Washington and Lincoln.
还是我邀请了我的朋友、华盛顿和林肯。
And that's Everyday Grammar.
以上就是今天的全部内容。
